Welcome
Welcome to the official website of Torus 2026, an international conference focusing on the multi-wavelength study of AGN structures. We look forward to welcoming you in Kyoto!
Scientific Rationale
This conference is one of the series of international meetings held every few years focusing on AGN tori. The torus was once a hypothetical structure introduced to explain spectroscopic features, but now its existence and its detailed structure can be verified through multi-wavelength observations. Theoretically, models have evolved from simple geometric ones to realistic ones that incorporate physical processes based on multi-dimensional simulations. High-energy-resolution X-ray spectroscopy provided by XRISM is changing our view on AGN structures, including the torus, broad line region, accretion disk, and highly ionized outflows. Furthermore, recent observations with JWST and ALMA have revealed new insights into the obscuration of AGNs at high redshifts. These offer excellent opportunities to discuss their connections to the structures of nearby AGNs and to deepen our understanding of the physical origin of the torus. In this conference, experts in the multi-wavelength observations of AGNs from X-ray to radio, as well as the theories of AGN components and physical processes, will discuss the latest scientific results on AGN tori, related AGN structures, and the cosmological evolution of AGNs.
May is probably the most comfortable month in Kyoto, the former historic capital of Japan. The conference will be a great opportunity for you to enjoy both the science on the universe and the Japanese history, food & culture. We look forward to seeing many of you in Kyoto.
